The 4th annual Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association's Crappie Tournament was held Sunday, May 12, 2013.  Chairman for the event was Roger Hardaway, assisted by Janice Miller.  Eight teams met at Osage Cove in Glen Elder State Park at 7:30 a.m. to fill out entry forms and for a rules meeting.  Fishing was from 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. At the end of the tournament, Emmett Howg, representing his family from Alton, KS, presented the Waconda Lake Association with $730 for a donation in memory of their husband and father Art Howg who recently passed away.  They said he loved this lake and loved to fish and hunt here.  

1st place

1st place team was Roger and Tina Hardaway of Concordia, KS winning $80.00 for 25.86 lbs.   Tina also won the largest fish, winning $80.00 for a 2.40 lb crappie.

2nd place

2nd place team was Kyle Krier and Nathan Krier, of Concordia, winning $40 with 22.94 lbs.

3rd place

3rd place went to Scott Waters, of Beloit, and Frank Burwell of Concordia, winning $24.00 with 21.22 lbs. 

4th place

4th place went to David Gieber and Nathan Gieber of Concordia, winning $16.00 with 21.04 lbs.

13th Annual Catfist Tournament

The Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association's 13th annual catfish tournament was held Saturday, August 11 with 13 teams participating. Only 5 fish were figured in for the total fish weight.  1st place team with  41.15 lbs of fish and winning  $130.00 was John Stoeber, Jewell and Mike Stoeber, Salina.  2nd place team with 34.45 lbs and winning $65.00 was Matt Loomis and Colin Loomis, Mankato.  3rd place team with 32.25 lbs and winning $39 was Hunter McMillen, Solomon and Jim Loomis, Wichita.  4th place with 27.78 lbs, winning $26 was Bill Loomis, Jewell and Fred McMillen, Wichita.  There was also a big fish contest with every team participating.  The winner was Colin Loomis, Mankato winning $130 for his 13.66 lb fish.  Chairman of the event was Cecil Miller, Cawker City.

$1,000 Fish-A-Thon fish caught

    

These are pictures of the lady, Phoebe Herbster, Omaha, NE who caught the “Con Kid” on the 1st day of the Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association’s Fish-a-thon.  The Concordia, KS businesses that donated $100 each toward the $1000 are: Fleming Const., Fastenal, Eco Water, Blackwood Chiropractic, Krier Mower/Electric, NCK Community Laundry, KansasLand Tire, Miller Automotive, Liesler Carpentry/Const., and Mikesell Tree Shearing & Hedge Post.  In the 1st picture, where Phoebe is holding her fish, are L-R Harv Harbin, Omaha, Phoebe Herbster, Omaha and Wayne Ronnebaum from Wayne’s Sporting Goods, Glen Elder.  In the 2nd picture is Roger Hardaway, Concordia, KS,  Vice-President of the Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association, presenting the $1000 to Phoebe on behalf of the Concordia businesses.  The fish-a-thon runs through September 3 and still has over 340 cash and gift certificates available for the “catching”.  Be sure to buy a family entry ticket for $10 at one of the participating businesses before fishing to be eligible for one of these prizes.  More information call 785-781-4388.

Chairman for the event was Roger Hardaway assisted by Janice Miller. 13 teams met at Osage Cove in Glen Elder State Park at 7:30 a.m to fill out entry forms and for a rules meeting. Fishing was from 7:45 a.m to 3:00 p.m. 1st place team was Roger and Tina Hardaway of Concordia, KS winning $130.00 for 18.86 lbs. 2nd place was David Gieber and Nathan Gieber, Concordia, winning $65.00 with 17.22 lbs. 3rd place went to Gilbert Specht, Downs, and Cecil Miller, Cawker City, winning $39.00 with 17.12 lbs. 4th place went to Scott Waters, Beloit and Frank Burwell, Concordia, winning $26.00 with 16.38 lbs. The largest fish went to Roger and Tina Hardaway, Concordia, winning $120 for a 1.84 lb crappie.

 

Kid's Fishing Meal

On Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 the Glen Elder Dam/Waconda Lake Association served lunch for the 8th annual Glen Elder youth fishing tournament.  There were 160 kids that participated with 39 boat drivers, along with their assistants, who donated their boat and time to help support this event.  We served approximately 275-300 people hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, cookies and pop or water.

The Waconda Lake Association's 12th annual catfish tournament was held Saturday, August 13 with 13 teams participating. Only 5 fish were figured in for the total fish weight. 1st place team with 38.25 lbs of fish and winning $130.00 was John Stoeber, Jewell and Mike Stoeber, Salina. 2nd place team with 36.75 lbs and winning $65.00 was Shannon & Kelly Snedden, Potwin. 3rd place team with 34.20 lbs and winning $39 was Roger & Tina Hardaway, Concordia. 4th place with 26.96 lbs, winning $26 was Bill Loomis, Jewell and Fred McMillen, Wichita. There was also a big fish contest with every team participating. The winner was Shannon Snedden, Potwin winning $130 for his 12.48 lb fish. Chairman of the event was Cecil Miller, Cawker City.

   

 

The 2nd annual Waconda Lake Association’s Crappie Tournament was held Saturday, May 7, 2011.  Chairman for the event was Darin Zimmer with Wayne Jay assisting.   Both are from Glen Elder.  15 teams met at Osage Cove in Glen Elder State Park at 7:00 a.m. to fill out entry forms and for a rules meeting.  Fishing was from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  1st place team was Howard Yoder and Lyle Yoder of Welda, KS winning $131.25 for 23.52 lbs.  2nd place team was Patrick Jay, Glen Elder and Keith Chambers, Garnett, KS winning $65.63 with 22.56 lbs.  3rd place went to Scott Waters, Beloit and Frank Burwell, Concordia winning $39.37 with 21.32 lbs.  4th place went to Jace Smith, Kirwin, KS and Ryan Shaffer, Phillipsburg, KS winning $26.25 with 20.92 lbs.  The largest fish went to Cecil Miller, Cawker City, Ks. winning $150.00 for a 2.02 lb. crappie.
